Day 17: Ōtepoti (Dunedin)
Welcome
Yesterday we had an early start and a long drive along State Highway 1 from Ōtautahi to Ōtepoti.
I started my day with a three course breakfast. Scrambled eggs on toast cooked by Russell Devlin, whiskey marmalade on toast cooked by Tristan Deck, and fresh pineapple that I prepared in the classic Outrigger fashion.
After breakfast we said a sad goodbye to our hosts Russell, Buffy, and Fritz, and set out along the most boring stretch of road our country has to offer. The only respite to the trudging drive was our stop at my absolute favourite place in Te Waipounamu, Davo’s Hunting, Fishing, N Good Coffee.
We made good time and arrived at Dive (formerly The Cook Hotel) for an early load-in before our matinee performance.
The 5pm matinee was an all-ages show and while it was not very well attended it was heaps of fun playing to a younger crowd. The later show was a real fizzer, played to a sold-out room of 250. I don’t like to call favourites but I had my best show of the tour. Opening band Asta Rangu kicked the night off with a fiery set and Pickle Darling followed up, performing their gorgeous sparse arrangements again.
I am pleased to announce that Callum Song Time is back for season two. No one saw it coming! Check out the latest episode below!
