Day 1: Seattle
Welcome
Yesterday we met our tour bus, met our support band, and played our first show of the tour.
A good day always starts with a healthy dose of hotel TV and in this case it was a show about speccing up a giant tow truck. The first real task of the day was to make our way to the venue where Alcott the bus and our driver Robert were waiting to meet us. Alcott will be our home for the next few weeks and we can’t wait take advantage of the tiny beds and medium lounges.
Also waiting for us at the venue was our manager Jake who we hadn’t seen in two years and our sound engineer Will who we met on our European tour with Deathcab For Cutie.
Tristan came through with a good sandwich recommendation for breakfast that left my hands dripping but my hunger extremely satisfied.
It was a very busy afternoon with lots of merch to sort and count, as well as a brand new stage backdrop to hang. We also got to meet our cardboard cutouts who will be acting as our ambassadors to the crowd and hanging out at the merch table ready for photo opportunities.
Jon had a very happy day as his new guitar was waiting at the venue. It is the same colour and shape as his old guitar except it cost less money but is more shiny. Jon says it plays very well.
Our first show came off without a hitch. We played to a full room and everyone was wearing a mask. The venue made us feel very welcome and the staff seemed to take safety very seriously. The night was opened by Lunar Vacation, a young band from Atlanta, Georgia, who are supporting us on this run. Although we couldn’t go out front and watch them they sounded great from behind the stage. It felt extremely good to be up on stage again and the crowd gave us some big energy to work with having waited a long time for this tour to happen.
After packing out we boarded the bus for our first night of bus sleep. An experience that I still haven’t fully absorbed but I’ll be sure to try and describe in the coming days.
Today’s Worgle is a very simple one. If you’ve never done it before I would encourage you to give it a go! Feel free to put your results in the comments below.
