Day 8: Phoenix AZ

Welcome

Yesterday we drove East through the Colorado Desert and played our first ever show in Phoenix, Arizona.

I woke as we were hurtling along Interstate 10 having just crossed the California - Arizona border. We pulled into a gas station to fill up the water tank and I picked up a Bear Claw for breakfast and filled it with string cheese.

We arrived in downtown Phoenix around 4pm and our driver Robert did his usual expert parallel park with bus and trailer.

The venue was a small underground room called The Valley. We played at 8.30pm, our earliest set of the tour to date, and then had to rush our gear off the stage as the venue immediately turned into a club.

There was an area side of stage that was separate from the audience so for the first time we had a chance to watch Lunar Vacation play.

It was exciting to get back onto the bus after the show as Tristan had promised he would try diving into the circle of lilies. A promise that was carried out with precision and style as you can see in the video below.

We followed this accomplishment with a screening of Barry Sonnenfeld’s 1999 masterpiece Wild Wild West that has aged beautifully and it went down a treat.

Here’s a fresh worgle for those of you with a few extra minutes in your day and an insatiable hunger for the intricacies of our language.
