Day 3: Tauranga
Welcome
Yesterday we again departed from Támaki Makaurau to play our second show of the tour in the beautiful east coast town of Tauranga.
I began my day with my second home-cooked breakfast of the tour, a potato hash brown with some left-over chicken salad.
Our lighting operator will be joining us in Napier so our first task of the day was to pick up their lights and stow them in the boot.
We left the city shortly after midday with a confident Jon Pearce at the wheel and after complying with our government mandated rest-stop at Papakura Wild Bean Cafe (3.8 stars from 13 reviews) we gently cruised along SH2 and SH25 until the Todd Muller hoardings told us we were nearing our destination.
At the venue we sound checked and spent more time completing a really thorough stocktake. Having accurate data is crucial if Jono’s modelling program is to be able to reliably predict the t-shirt sales for the next month.
Totara Street was a fine venue to play in, equipped with a lavish lighting rig and a meticulous mezzanine. We were once again joined by our friends Dateline who were in fine form and opened up the show beautifully. The 300 strong crowd were a real treat to perform to. A great first show for us in Tauranga and we can’t wait to return.
Today’s profile is on a crucial member of our team who does so much work behind the scenes oiling and tinkering and welding this machine to keep it operating smoothly.
