Day 10: Perth

Welcome

Yesterday was our final Laneway performance in Perth, Western Australia.

It is a decent hop to get to Perth so we had another early morning flight to catch. At 4.45am we left our hotel in Melbourne and seven hours later we were pulling out of Perth Airport in a pristine silver Kia Carnival and heading to Wellington Square, just outside of Perth’s CBD. This is where Perth’s Laneway festival is located and it is a much smaller ground than any of the other festival grounds which was quite a pleasant experience after the sprawl of the Melbourne site.

Elevator selfie at the airport.

My breakfast - a leftover veggie pasty and a McDonalds hashbrown.

Our set began just before 2pm and on stage we got to experience some proper Western Australian sun. The guitars were constantly going out of tune and one of my distortion pedals got so hot that it stopped working. If those challenges weren’t enough Phoebe Bridgers turned up to watch from side-of-stage and was trying to vibe us out. The Perthians were a great crowd though and made this final Laneway performance feel like a great one.

We left the festival early as we had been generously offered a place to crash and prepare for our flight to the US. Jake and Apple who make up our management team are both originally from Perth and it was Apple’s mother Sharon who hosted us in her very comfortable house in Freemantle. There we were severely pampered with Gin & Tonics and cheeses for several hours and had the most wonderful time getting to know Sharon as well as Jakes mum and sister who came over to join the party.

At 9.30pm we loaded the Kia Carnival a final time and set out for the airport. While we were stopped at a petrol station Tristan earned himself a quick 200 boints for making friends with a stranger, in this case a stranger who was driving an impressive-looking Holden car.

We were all completely knackered by the time we were at the airport and checking our bags in. Thankfully it was very quiet and we made our way to the gate in a fairly short time.

Tristan wanted to get loosened up before the flight and the best way to do it was in one of smartecarte’s® massage chairs. These are the latest generation of massage chairs and provide a deep tissue Shiatsu massage with kneading, tapping, and rolling across the entire back, and a leg massage. They have customizable LED lighting and perform well in small and large retail properties alike.

Carnet successfully completed.

At 1.10am we left Australia. Our Singapore Airlines Boeing 787-10 departed Perth, heading north for Singapore, the first of three airborne hops to get to the starting point of our imminent North American tour.

My faucet of the day is the Sanitron Ecotron Swipe. These are manufactured in Queensland, Australia – a fact I found out from their facebook page which seems to be their only internet presence. I like that they have attempted to make this social media platform masquerade as a sales brochure. I also like how beautifully simple the design of the Ecotron Swipe is. It has a chrome faceplate for durability and the user instructions are deeply laser engraved so the user knows how to operate the tap. The detection distance of the sensor is adjustable to suit the requirement. The operation of this tap is simple: just swipe the hand over the sensor area and the water will flow continuously for 9 seconds and then will automatically stop.
