Day 39: Travel Day
Welcome
Yesterday we drove from Scranton, Pennsylvania, to Columbus, Ohio.
We covered nearly 800km yesterday and the bulk of it was crossing Pennsylvania. For a change we weren’t in a hurry, and we treated ourselves to a sit-down breakfast at a small town in the Susquehanna Valley. It was a beautifully quiet Sunday morning when we pulled into Milton and found ourselves a table at the only place that was open on the deserted main street. Lisa’s Milltown Deli had a great atmosphere and friendly staff, but most of all they had tables and chairs to sit at, a feature which was well suited to my order of French onion soup and eggs on toast.
We enjoyed our second drive through the Ridge and Valley Appalachians, this section of I80 which is surely one of the most scenic and pleasant bits of interstate road one can travel. There was nothing along our route as exciting as the New Connectiyork Triangle Corridor, but on a long drive day excitement is a relative thing and we were extremely happy when we made a rest stop at a Sheetz gas station. This franchise dominates the Pennsylvania gas station scene and gives off a neighbourhood deli vibe with its brick construction and fabric window awnings. This is also one of the only places you can stop to fill up your vehicle and also purchase a food item that feels like it’s not taking years off your life.
Which gas station franchise do you prefer? Sheetz, Love’s, or other? Leave your answer in the comments below and tomorrow I will make a graph from the data.
I’m not sure what time we made it to Columbus but it was just getting dark so it must have been around 9pm. Our reward for making it through this long drive came when Tristan and I turned on the TV in our hotel room and watched Shania Twain ride a white horse across the stage while singing ‘You’re Still The One’.
What sort of graph shall I make? Leave a suggestion in the comments below!
