Day 17: Rest day, Toronto, ON
Welcome
Yesterday we enjoyed a day off in Toronto, Ontario.
Placid Thunder was parked in the shadow of one of the world’s great sky needles when I woke up yesterday morning. At 553.3m this tower dwarfs both the Auckland Skytower (328m) and the Auckland Harbour Bridge (64m). No one knows the true purpose of this structure, but one thing is for certain – it is an engineering feat and an iconic part of the Toronto skyline.
We spent our day yesterday hanging out with a couple of new friends, members of the band Alvvays who call Toronto their hometown and were incredibly gracious and happy to show us around. Alec and Molly met us at a pub in a very pleasant neighbourhood and I began my day’s eating with an heirloom tomato salad, with buffalo mozzarella, basil, breadcrumbs, olive oil, and lemon.
I’m not going to share many details from our day in the interests of privacy, but I will say that we drank some prosecco and played frisbee.
I will also share the method that these Canadian musicians use to stabilise their chip packets once opened allowing easy access all the way to the bottom of the bag.
