Day 12: Dallas TX
Welcome
Yesterday we drove North from Austin, arriving in Dallas at the crack of dawn. We played a show at a club called Dada, in the neighbourhood of Deep Ellum.
I went on a health crusade for breakfast and ate a bowl of fruit with mixed berry yogurt and roasted nuts deluxe.
My morning run took me to Dallas landmark Fair Park, where I observed several of the Art Deco installations built for the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition.
At precisely 3pm we loaded into the venue which was located mercifully close to the trailer. All the jobs were completed within record time and with zero casualties.
☑ Set up drums
☑ Place the amps
☑ Plug in microphone
☑ Hang up the birds
☑ Inflate the birds
☑ Set up merch
☑ Set up cardboard cutouts
Fans of electrical installations will enjoy this galvanised steel conduit located at the front of the stage at Dada. The box in the foreground contains two powerCON outputs each delivering 140 American Volts to a powerbox on stage. The two boxes in the background each contain a microphone input and a monitor output, both saving valuable space on stage.
Sadly this system was not running at 100 percent while we were there and caused quite a few problems for our sound tech Will.
We experienced a beautiful surprise after soundcheck with the visit of these two puppies Bobby and Marley who were being fostered by our promoter.
At the show we were blessed by the attendance of ‘friend of the blog’ Keith Pearce who left us a generous care package. Thanks, Keith!
I’ll leave you today with an exciting part of the bus tour. This is the port-side forward primary-lounge cupboard, located underneath the primary lounge port-side couch shelf.
