Day 15: Cambridge, Pt. 2
Welcome
Yesterday we closed out our two night residency at The Sinclair.
We must have been exhausted from watching Top Gun Maverick because we all slept well into the morning. It wasn’t until the early afternoon that we had organised ourselves enough to leave the bus. There was a bouldering gym a block from the venue so we headed there to do a few sends before soundcheck (a send is when you send yourself up to the top of the wall).
Before I began climbing I nipped across to Felipe’s Taqueria to get a quick bite for breakfast. I had two tacos - a Chorizo and an Al Pastor.
This gym had an interesting energy. On quite a few occasions when I was stuck or had to abort halfway through a climb someone would jump in front of me and speedily complete the route before scurrying off without saying anything, or even making eye contact.
I was left with a spare half hour before soundcheck so I went out to explore the historic city of Cambridge and see the famous university. Bricks must have been cheap when they were building this town because they made everything out of them, including the footpaths. I walked down to the Charles River which in the summer would have been filled with those skinny rowboats, but yesterday was being sailed only by a parade of geese.
Across the river, beyond the orderly traffic of Soldiers Field Road looms the university’s great hall and above it the Hogwarts crest proudly strutting in the breeze.
I arrived back at the venue to discover that a very special person had arrived. Her name is Apple Bagios and she is a beloved member of our management team. She is joining on the bus for a few days and this will be her first ever tour!
When I entered at the greenroom I was surprised and excited to discover a pineapple included in our rider. One of the many skills I learned from studying the Kenny Rogers Cuisine Method is how to properly prepare a pineapple using a presentation style known as The Outrigger. It brought me a great deal of satisfaction to wield a knife again and prepare food for a group of people.
Our second show at the Sinclair was very similar to the first. New people watching, and a slightly different setlist, but the vibe was just as good as the night before. It was good to play an early set for a change and we were all loaded out and on the bus by midnight, ready for the drive to DC.
